Michigan Council for the Social Studies promotes professional interest in and improves social studies instruction statewide. Its annual student competition, open to Michigan students in grades three to twelve, emphasizes social studies skills and knowledge while providing participatory experiences. Approximately 500 students from 70 different schools participated in this competition. The organization's annual conference brings together approximately 250 social studies educators from across the state to attend workshops, visit exhibits and listen to speakers on significant educational issues.
