Program areas at Mercury Chamber Orchestra
Performances: During the 2021-2022 Season, Mercury performed Downtown Series concerts at the Wortham Center and three Neighborhood Series concerts at four venues across Houston. Mercury's imtimate and accessible performances of diverse repertoire are designed to be enjoyed by all. The orchestra is known for its vibrant signature sound and use of period instruments. Mercury also regularly collaborates with other area organizations to form concert and entertainment experiences that are unique in the Houston community.
Live Streaming Concerts: Since the pandemic began in March 2020, Mercury has live-streamed all ten of its programs for at-home audiences. These programs are also available for a week following each concert, allowing in-person audiences to re-live each performance. Streaming concerts has allowed Mercury to significantly expand its reach throughout Houston, Texas, United States, and internationally.
Education: In 2021-2022, Mercury offered teaching residencies in three Houston-area public schools, which develop important music skills and help foster life skills such as teamwork, self-expression, personal responsibility, and leadership. Mercury musicians also toured six public schools performing bilingual programs integrating classical music with the school curriculum. Adult audiences enjoyed Mercury's regular pre-concert lectures, offering insights into each concert's historical and musical context.
