Program areas at MAA
Support of the University of Maryland Medical school:the maa raised $1,342,992 in gifts to benefit the Medical school. of this amount, $406,080 was distributed directly for the benefit of the University of Maryland. A portion of these gifts were applied toward programs and services for 10,000 Alumni, faculty, students, and friends of the Medical school. With the assistance of the umb office of financial aid, the maa continued to administer 5 student loan funds: the maa revolving student loan fund; rowland student loan fund; rogers loan fund; white emergency loan fund; and hoffman emergency loan fund. These funds, turned over to the University in fy22, are valued at approximately $800,000.
Alumni and student related activities:more than 400 Alumni and guests returned to campus for a two-day reunion in may, and several student and Alumni activities returned to live events during the year, including freshmen orientation, white coat ceremony, and match day celebrations for students, as well as receptions at Medical meetings for Alumni. the Association provided incoming students with stethoscopes. A few student maa-sponsored activities including celebrating diversity dinner, the junior-year social, and sophomore auction were celebrated virtually.
Joint sponsorship of "the bulletin" magazine:four issues of "the bulletin" were published and mailed to more than 9,000 Alumni, faculty, friends, and students of the Medical school and emailed to thousands more. An editorial board, consisting of more than 20 Alumni and Medical school representatives, provided guidance and editorial assistance in the magazine's production. the bulletin is recognized as the oldest Medical Alumni publication in the united states.
To support the restoration, maintenance, and administration of davidge hall, the oldest Medical teaching facility in america.
