Program areas at Matthews Hope Ministries
The day program provides a variety of support to homeless individuals. They can obtain medical care, clothing, meals, groceries, showers, haircuts, transportation, vocational training, education, and housing. In 2022, the program provided services for 17,195 individuals including: 2,152 individual health care issues were addressed, 50,309 meals served, 6,405 showers taken, 321 haircuts given, 55,389 toiletries distributed, 1,597 loads of laundry done, 1,898 clients were assisted with id cards, food stamps, medicare, social security, etc. And 21 individual men, women and children were placed in transitional housing providing 3,975 nights of shelter.
The reward program translates work hours into "points" which are exchanged for in-kind goods and services. Guests can use their earned points to "purchase" items such as clothing, health services or food from the food pantry. This system helps our guests restore their dignity and self respect.
The life recovery program provides classes to help homeless clients learn essential life skills, it offers a support group to help overcome addictions, and it assists with continuing education needs.
The various other programs help the homeless families keep their children housed, fed and in school. The programs then encourage parents to improve their vital life-skills to regain self-sufficiency and independence. 28 individual children participated in the preschool programs.
