Program areas at Marian University
Marian University served 4,101 students as measured fall, 2021. This was comprised of 2,984 undergraduate, and 340 graduate, 752 doctoral and 25 certification students. Included in these demographics are traditional full and part-time undergraduates, accelerated on-line adult programs, accelerated 2nd nursing, medical and other doctoral and graduate students. Marian offers 51 undergraduate degrees. The top 10 programs in terms of number of majors are: nursing, management, biology, marketing, elementary education, exercise science, finance, psychology, secondary education, and history. Graduate programs currently offered are: teacher education, biomedical sciences, educational leadership, special education, clinical mental health counseling, school counseling and applied behavioral analysis. Doctoral programs currently offered are: doctor of osteopathic medicine, certified nurse anesthetists, family nurse practitioner and organizational leadership. Demographic information regarding the Marian student population is as follows: ipeds race/ethnicity: white - 65.1%, black or african american - 14.1%, hispanic/latino - 9.4%, asian - 5.2% and other -6.2%. State residency: Indiana 69.8%, contiguous states - 9.1%, other 21.1%. Gender: female - 56%, male - 43% and unknown - 1%. Religion: christian, roman catholic - 42.7%, christian other - 45.2%, other/no religion - 12.1%. The college of osteopathic medicine is the only college of osteopathic medicine in the state of Indiana and the 2nd medical school (along with Indiana University medical school). The University graduated its first student in spring 2017. The primary goal is to place physicians in Indiana and the neighboring states. Placement demographics on the class of 2022 include: 99% placement rate, 64% in primary care, 84% physician care shortage areas, 32% in Indiana, 71% in Indiana and surrounding states. And matched in a total of 27 states and 74 cities. In october, 2020 Marian announced the launch of the e.s. Witchger school of engineering. Degrees will be offered in biomedical, chemical, civil, computer and mechanical engineering a well as engineering physics. The inaugural class for the e.s. Witchger school of engineering will enter Marian in fall 2022. In fall, 2023, Marian will open a state-of-the-art engineering facility. Marian will seek approval from the accreditation board for engineering and technology (abet) which can be obtained after the program produces its first graduating class.
