Program areas at Mandarins of Sacramento

The Mandarins provides the ideal balance of education, family values, personal time, and the blending of Asian traditions with drum corps. We are committed to the growth of the lives of young people through youth development and performance excellence while providing enjoyment for the Sacramento community and audiences worldwide. The organization provides programs for youth, instilling discipline and developing talent, by conducting drum and bugle field shows for the public. This program includes purchases and maintenance of instruments and uniforms and travel to various destinations across the country that host drum and bugle corp competitions.1- Successful completion of the Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps season that included auditions for 160 members, spring training camp, and the 77 day tour throughout the United States. Logistics included, but not limited to, the hiring administrative team, the design team and the instruction of props and design of uniforms and flags; securing locations for the audition camps, Spring training, and overnight stays while on the tour; assembling the fleet of 5 busses, 2 equipment trucks and tractors, and a 53-foot traveling food service trailer; and performing for 1000's of drum corps fans across the country.2- The implementation and completion of the first term of the Mandarins Music Academy that provides the "Gift of Music" for 1100 elementary school students in the Elk Grove Unified School District in February 2022. Logistics included coordinating the program with the school district and principals of each school; the registration of the students; ascertaining the teaching materials and over 1000 instruments; the hiring and training of 33 music educators. The fall 2022 saw the start of our second term of the Mandarins Music Academy with plans to expand to more schools in the near future.3- Hosting the Capital Classic Drum and Bugle Corps show in July 2022 at Sac State's Hornet Stadium. Ten World Class and Open Class Drum Corps International corps performed at the event for over 3500 spectators.4- Navigating our Bingo operations since the relaxation of the Sacramento County restrictions from COVID. Revenues dropped dramatically during the pandemic, and the Bingo team found ways to keep the program viable.5- The Summer Music Camp hosted by the Mandarins saw a record number of attendees from Sacramento and Northern California and Nevada educated on the leadership skills, team-building, as well as conducting and instrument proficiency during the three-day camp.
