Program areas at Maine Women's Lobby Education Fund
Outreach and Education: Through nonpartisan research and publications, educational events, and discussion forums, we give policy makers and the public accurate, Maine-based data, information, and tools to support feminist and gender-equitable public policy. We also convene partners and coalitions to do outreach and education on key issues of gender equity, with our largest coalitions being Courts Matter to Maine (focused on a fair, just, and representative judiciary), and the Maine Paid Leave Coalition (focused on ensuring that all Mainers have access to paid time to care for new babies, family members, and themselves). In 2022, we published "The Economic Security of Older Women in Maine: A Data Report" with the Cutler Institute of Health and the Maine Council on Aging, as well as "Maine's Road to Gender Justice." We also conducted 39 nonpartisan issue-based education events serving over 1,000 participants.
Civic Leadership: We offer Mainers training and skills-building, as well as the confidence to engage as change makers in civic life. Our key program is the annual Girls Day at the State House. In 2022, Girls Day completed its 26th year, with over 100 students representing every county in Maine. Participants indicated a 52 percent increase in knowledge about the legislative process.
