Program areas at Lutheran Heritage Foundation
The Lutheran Heritage Foundation (lhf) fulfills the great commission found in the book of matthew by translating, publishing, distributing, and introducing Lutheran resources that are bible-based, christ-centered, and reformation-driven so that the church may increase. In order to carry out this work lhf utilizes individuals worldwide who serve as translators, reviewers, editors, general linguists, and theological specialists in order to provide the most accurate translations possible. Since inception in 1992 lhf has published 1391 titles in 149 different languages. Despite the lingering impact of covid19 during 2022 over 90 titles were printed in 40 languages amounting to just over 480,000 books/pamphlets being printed during the year. This included first time publications in the kisi (sierra leone) and quechua (bolivia) languages. A significant publishing accomplishment during the year was the printing of 19,000 copies of a spanish hymnal that is now being distributed throughout the americas. A second printing of an additional 25,000 copies is planned for 2023. The topical series of what about? Pamphlets written by former Lutheran church Missouri synod president rev. Dr. a.l. Barry addressing doctrinal topics, moral issues, and concerns in the church to help christians grow in their understanding of these important questions was translated and published in whole or in part in 10 different languages. Other printing highlights included a first printing of the small catechism with explanation in gourmancema and maasai. This volume was also reprinted in indonesian, swahili, and thai. The enchiridion was also printed in 7 languages. A child's garden of bible stories was printed for the first time in anuak and kisi and reprinted in indonesian, konkomba, kusaal, swahili, and thai. Bible stories in pictures was reprinted in thai and vietnamese (new testament stories). God's word for you was also printed for the first time in the khmer and vietnamese languages. The jesus never fails evangelism booklet written by lhf founder, dr. robert rahn, was printed or reprinted in 18 languages with many additional translations underway. Jesus never fails- a history of the Lutheran Heritage Foundation spanning 2012-2018 was also printed in english. Portions of the book of concord, bible commentary, luther's works, and devotional materials were also published in a variety of languages. The published resources are distributed through missionaries, churches, and individuals worldwide with increasing requests from within the united states for campus ministry, mission trip, or evangelism outreach purposes. In order to ensure that the resources are understood and used effectively the lhf conducts introductory workshops and training seminars for pastors, church leaders, women, and or children depending upon the content of the volume. Despite a war taking place lhf was able to continue its publishing program in both ukraine and russia in order to provide ukrainian and russian resources to those remaining in the impacted countries or for those who had to leave everything behind and flee to other countries including the united states. The lhf is blessed to have a faithful group of dedicated volunteers that assist with mailings and other projects on a regular basis.
