Program areas at Loudoun Symphony Association Attn Karen Knobloch
Loudoun Symphony orchestra (lso) presented six live full-orchestra concerts during the year. Four of the concerts featured the finalists for the lso's music director position. The lso also presented a discover the orchestra program to educate children about classical music and the instruments played in an orchestra. In addition, the lso presented a set of holiday concerts. The orchestra has approximately 65 professional and community musicians. All winds and percussion musicians, plus 10 principal string musicians receive per-service honoraria for performing.
Contract performances - the lso collaborated with ion arena in leesburg, va to present a special concert titled "ice on fire" featuring music to accompany a variety of world-class ice dancers and area ice dancers from the Washington dc metro region. In addition, contract performances included payments to musicians for sidenotes virtual videos and a chamber concert during perfect pairings at creek's edge winery.
Loudoun Symphony youth orchestra (lsyo) program - the lsyo provides opportunities for varying levels of experienced young musicians to perform with a large ensemble outside of an academic setting. Lsyo served 130 students who participated in one of three ensembles each led by a professional conductor. Participation is by audition, and subject to an annual tuition fee. Need-based scholarships are also provided. Lsyo presented three live concerts and also offered a week-long summer orchestral institute with intensive practice and performance opportunities for beginning, intermediate and advanced youth musicians.
