Program areas at Living Inclusively for Everyone
Fit 4 life is a weekly fitness and wellness program which encourages exercise and healthy eating habits. While individuals with dd are more likely to be obese, to have diabetes and high blood pressure they engage in exercise and other healthy behaviors less frequently than individuals without disabilities. Exercise and activity are critically important to offset the weight gain that is partially attributable to the many medications that many adults with dd must take.
Leap's goal is to improve the overall quality of life of each participant by having him or her become an active and contributing member of society. To this end, leap's curriculum and activities will develop life skills with a particular focus in areas of health & fitness and social & community engagement. Each participant will be encouraged to become involved in communuity and volunteer opportunities. The training, activities, and routine established shall be meaningful to the participant and provide an appropriate level of variation and interest. The expectation is to achieve individually determined goals and support participation in less restrictive settings.
Rad or recreation for adults with disabilities is a free summer program that runs five days per week and serves more than 30 families. The school year comes to an end and many broward county residents with developmental disabilities (dd) are left with nothing to do during the day. Many of their parents would have to miss work in order to stay home with their adult children who cannot remain at home independently. The rad summer program eases the burden on family members and ensures that individuals with dd do not languish at home but are out in the community as active participants in all that broward county has to offer.
In keeping with the need to improve the lives of individuals who choose group home Living, life has adopted a local group home, whispering oaks, located in davie, fl. Our goal is to provide social activities that promote community inclusion for its residents.
