Program areas at Lincoln Hills Cares
In the spring and summer and into early fall (May through September) of 2020, Lincoln Hills Cares (LHC) designed and operated a higher education and careers pathways program to connect underrepresented youth to transformative, hands-on, outdoor learning experiences, and community service. The LHC pathways program used an employment based youth development model to bring together teams of under-represented high school and college youth in a replicable and scale-able out of school and summer based program characterized by: -radical integration of culturally senstive citizen-science with hands on project based learning. (See Schedule C)
The focus of the Nizhoni Equestrian Program is to foster personal growth through equestrian experiences. We strive to achieve this by encouraging the social and emotional development of youth & teen girls through equestrian training. With roots that date back to 1924, the Nizhoni Program was re-established in 2013 to provide ethnically diverse young women, ages 12-18, with positive and empowering experiences. The Nizhoni Program allows for a safe and comfortable environment for youth to interact with horses. The goals are to deepen skill and interest in horseback riding, encourage an appreciation and value for the outdoors and explore options to enhance the experience outside of the riding program.
Lincoln Hills Cares delivers outdoor education and recreation programs and experiences to our Denver Metro and front range communities. Through a variety of partnerships with local, regional, and national nonprofit and municipal organizations we continue to expand our reach by serving a growing number of youth, young adults and families who may not otherwise have the opportunity. We worked with 11 partner groups, hosted over 520 youth and incorporated 15 education curriculum and activities.
