Light House Studio

Our filmmaking programs focus on storytelling, personal expression and fostering media literacy. Mirroring the explosion of youth media nationally, our workshops include Documentary, Animation, Narrative, Experimental Film, Music Video and Visual Effects. We conduct on site and virtual "Keep It Reel" filmmaking workshops in partnership with Charlottesville High School, Albemarle High School, Computers 4 Kids, and Mountaintop Montessori, and Center 1 to name a few. In CY 2022, we taught 82 workshops to 837 students from 40 schools; worked with 18 different local artists to teach in guest teaching workshops; and partnered with 57 local nonprofits and schools; showed student work to approximately 4,000 live and virtual audience members; had 34 student films accepted to 58 film festivals, winning 14 major awards; and provided more than 60% percent of student scholarships to attend at free or reduced cost. In addition, 2,915 people visited Vinegar Hill Theatre to see over 35 independent documentary, narrative, and animated films many created by our student filmmakers.
