Program areas at LCAP
The nutrition Program provides meals in both a congregate setting and in individual homes. Licking County residents who are eligible for this service must be age 60 and older and unable to prepare a meal for themselves or have no one else to assist them on a regular basis. Program objectives are to: 1) relieve isolation; 2) provide a nutritionally balanced meal; 3) provide an opportunity for socialization and continuing education; 4) help seniors remain independent in their homes and 5) assure a better quality of life for older adults and individuals who are at risk due to physical and/or mental handicap. We currently have seven congregate meal sites - three in newark, and one each in johnstown, buckeye lake, pataskala and utica.
The transportation Program provides a means of access to medical and other necessary appointments for ambulatory and wheelchair bound individuals in need of transportation. The Program objectives are to help provide Licking County older adults with transportation to medical appointments and other necessary places, if they are not able to drive themselves or do not have help with transportation. In addition, our transportation can help relieve isolation by allowing seniors to participate in activities at lcap that can be of mental, physical, emotional, educational and social benefit.
Homemaking, personal care, caregiver and chore services provide a means of helping older adults remain independent in their homes, thus reducing the need for nursing home placement for many seniors. The Program objectives are to provide clients with personal care (bathing, dressing, etc. ), homemaker services (dust, vacuum, laundry, grocery shopping, prescription pick-up, etc. ), respite relief for caregivers, and chore services (heavy household cleaning, yard work, carpet cleaning, etc.). These services provide the necessary assistance in allowing seniors to live in a safe and clean environment.
There are many other programs offered by lcap, including activities, social services, outreach, adult day services, and vision improvement services. These additional programs offer so many unique opportunities for the seniors of Licking County, including exercise classes, educational programs, technology support, art and craft classes, assistance with health insurance and housing needs, low vision aids and basic eye care, daily care for individuals in our adult day center, and much more. Each of these programs is aimed at improving the quality of life for Licking County seniors, by contributing to their independence and healthy lifestyles.
