Program areas at Learning Disabilities Association
Learning Connections - focuses on preventing severe academic difficulties or school failure by providing intensive reading, writing and math instruction for low-income children and youth, support for their parents, and resources for classroom teachers. In FY2022, the Learning Connections program enrolled 413 children; 83% of students showed positive growth and 51% exceeded academic growth expectations as measured on pre- and post-tests. Parents of participating students reported that their child's confidence has grown significantly and their child's skills have shown improvement throughout the course of the school year.
Instructional and Support Services - provides individualized tutoring, executive function skill building, workshops, support groups and consultations for children, youth, adults and families affected by learning disabilities and attention deficits. These highly individualized services improve learning strategies and skills to help children and adults meet their academic, vocational and personal goals at school, home, and work. LDA provided service to 87 children, youth, parents and adults during FY2022 with 100% achieving their target goal or reporting gaining useful information and strategies.
Teacher Preparation and Licensure - approved by the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board, LDAs Teacher Preparation Program provides training and clinical experiences necessary to obtain an Academic Behavioral Strategist special education teaching license. During FY2022, LDA Minnesota graduated three teacher candidates by recommending them for licensure. LDA welcomed its third cohort to the program and had a total of 21 candidates enrolled in the program.
