Program areas at KC United Youth Family Sports and Education Association
We launched the Harold D. Foster After-School reading math and physical activity initiative with four of the lowest SAT scoring elementary and middle schools in the Kansas City Kansas School District. Of the 39 students who attended we saw an increase of reading acumen of 7% and math acumen of 4%. We also saw a decrease of 1 3 of the students lower their BMI Index.
Our Sports program saw our largest participation ever. Over 900 players and cheerleaders grades K-8th from both KCK KCMO and other surrounding counties participated. On average each participant received over 7 hours of physical activity during the week with a minimum of 2 hours per game over a nine week period. As per the guidelines given by Healthy Schools child and adolescents ages 6-17 years should do 60 minutes or more of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity daily.
Our Mary Ann Flunder Summer S.T.E.A.M. Sports & Arts camp had 47 students from KCKs and KCMO participate in our six week initiative. The students were exposed to solid evidence-based S.T.E.M. projects introduced to boxing as a form of self-discipline while receiving adaptive leadership training as well as social emotional support from certified counselors.
