Environmental sustainability: -through william penn foundation philly green ambassador funding, trained phl tcb commercial corridor operators (southwest philly) to improve worker's skills in tree care, environmental and climate justice. -worked with epa's office of brownfields and land revitalization and vita nuova llc to develop revitalization and reuse goals for the oeec's campus located on lancaster avenue. Assessed brownfields work leading to the clean-up of the oeec west philadelphia site. -partnered with the national wildlife federation and university of Maryland as an epa thriving communities technical assistance center (tctac) to provide technical assistance to under-resourced community organizations. -provided regular clean-up of 90,000 sq. Ft of vacant land parcels in west philly in partnership with the pa horticultural society. -partnered with the academy of natural sciences of drexel university to implement "the science shop," a pilot program to address local environmental challenges through community engagement. -collected 8.96 tons of litter and reduced litter index through robust trash collection Services on five west philadelphia commercial corridors for the wynnefield overbrook redevelopment corporation (worc). -partnered with pa horticultural society to develop and implement tree care and workforce Development training. -as part of the breathe right project, educated community members on the importance of air monitoring to inform improved community health. -engaged young adults between the ages of 16 and 32 to learn about and work on marine debris interventions in indian & cobb creeks under the oeec's pga corps program. -worked with the institute for sustainable communities to develop a framework for a phl-based resilience hub that will ease neighborhood-level stressors resulting from climate and environmental disturbances. -partnered with the philadelphia orchard project (pop) to maintain and preserve apple, pomegranate, fig and other fruit trees at the overbrook center. -partnered with penn state university to demonstrate various container types for water collection, and interventions needed to expel the 'first flush' from the rain water collection system, and how various additives can be used to help keep bacteria down. The success of this project will assist growers with a cost-effective recommendation for the use of an effective 'first flush' system management for the reduction of contaminates entering their rain barrels, cistern, and other collection systems.
Healthy living initiatives: -educated community members from zip codes 19151, 19131, and 19139 to become better informed on how to mitigate the impacts of vacant lots, poor air quality, brownfields, unhealthy homes and lead contamination through the epa sponsored overbrook community science project. -the oeec donated vegetable crop from high tunnel/greenhouse production to neighbors.
