Program areas at ISAKOS
Isakos 2023, a biennial medical educational conference that brought early career physicians together with leading experts, global thought leaders, and surgeons from every continent, created a one-of-a-kind opportunity for nearly 3,000 participants to engage, discuss, and learn the latest advancements in Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Sports Medicine. Over four content-packed days, this educational conference delivered the latest science plus cutting-edge techniques, offered through a wide range of educational formats. From stimulating surgical demonstrations to small-group "meet the expert" sessions, from case-based presentations to debates on current controversies in Orthopaedic practice, from games and challenges to lectures and icls addressing clinical management, there were ample opportunities for knowledge-building and networking. Plus, isakos accepted more than 1,500 abstracts from every corner of the world, which were selected and made available for sharing via podium presentations, posters and electronic posters. More than 100 young professionals, female surgeons and those from less developed countries received scholarships to attend.
The journal of isakos, an open-access professional journal, synthesized the latest research and evidence-based guidelines in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and traumatology including joint disorders. With nearly 100 articles published in 2023, jisakos provided busy Orthopaedic surgeons and specialists a thorough reference for diagnosing and treating patients. Isakos also published books and newsletter articles throughout 2023 that provided essential information for clinicians. More than 40 isakos books have been published to date. With nearly 5,000 views in 2023 isakos's newsletter serves as an essential resource and reference for practicing surgeons to improve patient care.
The isakos educational and research program provided high quality education to train thousands of surgeons worldwide in 2023, while also supporting and advancing research around the world. Courses included hands-on surgical skills programs, virtual sessions and in-person meetings led by world-renowned isakos physician leaders. A monthly isakos webinar series led by international physician experts had live participation of about 4,000 professionals, with webinars covering an array of topics and content curated by isakos clinical committees. $180k in isakos research grants were made available to encourage quality research in the topic areas of Knee Surgery, Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy and to provide funding for the highest quality international research within these areas across four types of grants, including those for new researchers and for countries with limited resources. Isakos fellowships provided young professionals the opportunity to observe Sports Orthopaedic surgeries performed by highly respected surgeons, to discuss the surgical procedures and all aspects of patient management, and to discuss and share research experience. Isakos's young investigator's scholarship and research mentoring served as a mentor-mentee program for young investigators with a specific focus on developing countries, as isakos seeks to stimulate research and education in developing countries, foster international collaboration, and promote academic excellence in Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine.
