Program areas at International Neuroethics Society
The International Neuroethics Society did not hold an annual meeting in 2023 due to a change in timing of our event from october or november to april. With that adjustment, the gap between meetings was about 18 months. Planning for the 2024 annual meeting largely took place in the 2023 calendar year. The theme for the meeting is "expressing wonder, making meaning: Neuroethics engages the arts. "sessions were planned and designed to explore creative, technological, practical, and social elements of the brain and the arts. The meeting included opportuniteies to participate virtually and in-person in baltimore, Maryland, usa.even though the annual meeting would not place until 2024, the call for abstracts and the call for essays went out in february/march and investigators from a wide range of disciplines and regions around the world submitted their work to be judged by a panel of peers and ultimately shared at the meeting or recognized as a top submission to the Neuroethics essay contest. Authors selected were invited to present their work with posters or recorded oral presentations during the upcoming annual meeting in 2024. Abstract entries were reviewed by the ins program committee and essay entries were reviewed by the ins student/postdoc committee. The Society launched an affinity groups effort in 2023. The aims of the affinity groups are to: provide a platform for engagement with the broader membership focused around a particular topic; build International and interdisciplianry networks; tap into expert multidisciplinary scholarship; facilitate knowledge exchange/transfer between members with different expertise; and more. The groups, each with assigned volunteer co-leads, included: ai and consciousness; cognitive enhancement; cross-cultural collaboration; diversity, equity and inclusion; law and legal matters; neural interfaces; public communication and publishing.
