Program areas at Intentional Communities of Washtenaw

Icw continues to be committed to providing an enhanced quality of life for adults with developmental disabilities in the ann arbor area. We maintained our vigilance regarding covid by hosting a vaccine clinic with the bivalent booster and continuing to offer several zoom activities per week. But we also expanded our outdoor activities such as our first project grow vegetable garden, visiting the rolling sculpture car show downtown, and taking a fall color tour train ride. We also emphasized health and fitness with snowshoeing, an adaptive canoeing and kayaking session at gallup park, and weekly outdoor yoga classes (including one with goats). This year also saw the return of our core activity of monday night group dinners for each our four community builder groups as well as our dedication to engagement with art, including a trip to the detroit institute of arts for the "van gogh in america" exhibition. Probably the biggest accomplishment of 2022 has been the addition of new membership levels. In creating spaces in our organization for social and non-resident members, additional intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals are being able to experience the benefits of our organization while still living with their nuclear families. This also gives these individuals (and families) more insight in what it might be like to live more independently.
