Research, Reporting and Education: 2023 projects and accomplishments included: 1) Facing South online, which published reporting and analysis at the www.facingsouth.org website and delivered email newsletters to a regional and national audience of 20,000 readers; 2) The Democracy Program, which tracked threats to voting rights, fair elections, and good government, and explored best practices for policy change including dispatches in Facing South and policy backgrounders on key democracy issues in North Carolina; and 3) The Julian Bond Fellowship, which hired the Institute's fourth fellow as part of an ongoing program to train and support public interest journalists and researchers.
