Program areas at I Grow Chicago NFP

Strive to thrivethe cornerstone of I Grow Chicago's programming is strive to thrive, which engages high-need englewood residents in individualized case management and wraparound services. Strive to thrive addresses the root causes of trauma and poverty, rather than simply "fixing" the symptoms. Using a tailored, culturally-competent approach, we help to identify and remove the barriers to success in a person's life, empowering them to change their outcomes and ultimately giving them the tools to change the outcomes of their community as well.
Community building and wellnesscentral to this program area and our violence reduction efforts is our wisdom council, made up of community elders who act as a neighborhood-led conflict mediation system. Additionally, this programming includes monthly community-building events like healing circles, community-designed neighborhood improvement initiatives (such as rehabilitating vacant lots and homes), creative expression through art and music, trauma healing through yoga and other mindfulness practices, and urban farming.
Children's programmingincludes born to thrive, a holistic approach to care that provides basic needs and wraparound services to facilitate healing and trauma resilience; life after school, our after school program for students ages 4-12 which offers tutoring, yoga, art, games, and mentorship; and summer of hope, a six-week summer day camp for children ages 5-12 that focuses on academic enrichment, culture, leadership development, and mindfulness.
