HDI's initiatives support the advancement of the Theater District as a world-class cultural destination. HDI's newest website, theaterdistricthouston.org, was created to help increase unique page views in addition to that of the district's informational page on downtownhouston.org, with a specific goal of introducing downtown residents to the possibility of becoming theater patrons.
Theater District Open House is an annual event held in late August. The event is free to the public and includes performances, back stage tours, interactive exhibits, and culminated in a symphony performance at the end of the day. The goal of the event is to raise awareness of and familiarity with the Theater District as a whole, and to encourage patronage of the Theater District. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, HDI did not host the Open House in 2022.
