Hiawatha Academies has achieved significant outcomes in closing the achievement gap for a growing community of scholars that is 99% students of color and 92% free/reduced lunch eligible. Hiawatha's historically underserved populations (english language learners and free and reduced-price lunch students) outperformed their peers in the entire state of Minnesota in all grade levels and all subjects.hiawatha Academies is proving that closing the achievement gap, a task some say is impossible, is indeed possible. Continued on schedule o.though from traditionally underserved demographic groups, 60-70% of Hiawatha scholars consistently score proficient or advanced in math compared to roughly 50% of all students in the local district and 20% of students in similar high frl schools. In reading, roughly 45% of Hiawatha scholars are proficient or advanced compared to 40% of district students and only 15% of students in similar high frl schools.during the school year ending in 2023, 1,521 students were served.
