Program areas at Healthy Learners
A ministry of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, the purpose of Healthy Learners is, and always has been, to meet the health needs of children and youth who would otherwise not receive adequate health care services. Most of these children are from working families who are uninsured, or under insured and do not have private pay capability. During 2020 Healthy Learners' provided 1,419 children with access to 3,755 basic health care services, including medical, dental, vision, and behavioral health services. In addition to our traditional services (which were affected by the closures of school and healthcare offices), Healthy Learners pivoted during the Covid19 Pandemic to serve communities in new ways. Staff traveled over 15,000 miles delivering 91000 meals, 18,000 boxes of produce and canned goods, as well as other essentials such as diapers, infant supplies, and hygiene items. The children served by Healthy Learners come from very diverse backgrounds. Ethnicities include but are not limited to, American Indian, African American, Caucasian, Asian, and Hispanic.
