Program areas at Hallberg Butterfly Gardens
The program is for the preservation and enhancement of Butterfly habitat. The Gardens hosted regular volunteers every tuesday and the last saturday of the month in 2022. There were 74 volunteers during the year who put in a total of over 500 hours. Work included trail maintenance, propagation of native and habitat friendly plants for the Gardens and plant sales, and invasive plant removal. Volunteers also worked on enhancement & expansion of the garden'Gardens's milkweed patches & nectar sources for the monarch habitat patch. The monarch habitat patch is included in the ongoing research project headed by the non-profit, pollinator partnership. This group studies the phenology of the monarch Butterfly in California.
The Hallberg Butterfly Gardens offered the following activites in 2022.self-guided tours were offered by appointment through the summer and fall. There were 1969 people who came and toured the Gardens including 299 children from local schools. 672 butterflies from 22 different species were identified by guests and volunteers who came to the gardens.every first sunday of the month guests were invited to draw and paint observations in the gardens.the Gardens held its 4th annual moth night in july to celebrate national moth week. 15 people came to learn the importance of moths in the ecosystems, thrughout the evening the 20 participants helped to document and id moths found in the Gardens at 2 uv light stations used to attract moths and other insects. There were 50 observations from28 different species of moths, beetles,and flies.
