Program areas at Habonim Dror Camp Moshava

Program Service 1, SUMMER CAMP. Description: Since 1935, Habonim Dror Camp Moshava has provided an educational, overnight, summer-camp experience in June, July, and August for Jewish youth. The camp is one of six in North America that are part of Habonim Dror, the Progressive Labor Zionist Youth Movement. The Movement and this entity, Habonim Dror Camp Moshava, are committed to providing Jewish education promoting the exploration of Jewish identity, Zionism, and social justice, in an environment facilitating personal growth and reflection. The camping program places particular emphasis on working together and building a supportive community. Accomplishments: A seven-week, residential-camp experience in 2022, this program is for campers ages 7 to 17. During this program, campers learn and engage with values of social justice, community, and inclusion, through experiential education. Campers leave camp with a more established sense of self and sense of community, understanding of their Jewish identity, and a commitment to a more just world. In Summer 2022, the summer-camp program had more attendees than in the two prior summers, with over 170 campers. We provided excellent daily education for all campers on the topics of social justice, identity, community, Judaism, and more. Our survey data shows us that the community we create, and the care provided to children from their peers and counselors, continue to shine.
Program Service 3, YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMMING (Eizor). Description: During the academic year, older youth (ages 17-24) provide programming for younger children on a weekly/monthly basis to promote the goals and values indicated above. Such programs include seminars, Jewish-holiday celebrations, and age-appropriate opportunities for social action. Accomplishments: Campers who attend our summer-camp program have an opportunity to connect throughout the year. In addition to other social events, it features Jewish holiday celebrations. We seek to create a community that extends beyond the summer-camp experience and provides a meaningful Jewish experience year-round. Programs are offered twice a month. Our Year-Round Programming gathered members of the Mosh community multiple times a month throughout the year. We created strong opportunities for Jewish practice and social connections between campers of all ages throughout Maryland, District of Columbia, and Virginia. Flagship events - Fall Overnight and Hannukah Sleepover - had more participants attending in 2022 than we have had in the past three years.
Program Service 2, SOCIAL JUSTICE HIGH SCHOOL GROUP (Bonimot Tzedek). Description: During the academic year, high school-aged members of Habonim Dror, guided by youth leaders, meet regularly to explore and engage in opportunities to promote social justice. Such programs include seminars and forums, and engaging in political action. Accomplishments: The program affords teens an opportunity to learn about and engage in community activism. Participants attend trainings and actions on issues that impact them on the state and county level. In addition to re-engaging with their community throughout the year, they learn transferable, activism skills that they will continue to use beyond this program. Our Bonimot Tzedek program provided many training and action opportunities for teens throughout Maryland, District of Columbia, and Virginia. We had a number of new participants in 2022, who deepened their relationship with activism and social justice through participation in our program.
