Program areas at GOALS

Goals operates over 20 enrichment after school and summer programs for youth ages 6 to 19 years of age. All programs are offered free of charge in specifically targeted disadvantaged communities. The programs operate under three fundamental themes of youth development in Athletics, Learning enrichment and community Service to help others.a brief synopsis of major Goals programs operative during fy 9/30/2022goals for valadez - yorba linda school district. This program operates monday Through friday. We were able to phase in in-person enrichment afterschool programs Through this fiscal year with a combination of distance Learning support as well as on-site staff program support from october of 2020 Through june of 2021. Program participation averaged in the 80-100 range which while down from a "normal" year" was still considered excellent given the number of youth getting sick and or falling behind due to other ill health in their homes.our Goals for Goals academy enrichment program that served the charter school we had founded in 2015 was not renewed for this fiscal year. Goals had placed this school operation in an independent not for profit entity called "anaheim academy and doing business as "vibrant minds charter school". The new entity opted not to engage Goals as a contractor to continue what had been, for 6 years, a highly successful and heralded afterschool program. It is not clear what afterschool services if any, that the charter school operated in our stead.goals for oak view also reopened as an afterschool enrichment program with both distance Learning and some daily direct on-site afterschool support daily much like the Goals for valadez program. This continues to be a major monday to friday afterschool enrichment program at the oak view elementary school in huntington beach. This program has been operated for many years in partnership and under contract with the ocean view school districtgoals for abc (a better community). The Goals abc initiative and facilities were temporarily shut down during the majority of the fiscal year (10/1/20 - 9/30/21) however Goals did offer some modest on-line support programs beginning january 2021. The clubhouse and all facilities are expected to reopen fully in the fall of '21.once reopened, Goals will again institute daily tutoring and homework help, drop in sports and weekly field trips too .multiple other Goals locations at rio vista elementary, melrose elementary, ruby drive elementary, and maxwell elementary schools were not operated thoughout the calendar year due to the respective covid19 restrictions established by various school districts. Goals everybody counts in-person support for our differntly abled neighbors was suspended all year pending an approval from their executive leadership. Typically this wonderful partnership with the nearby not for profit "my day counts" program focuses on enrichment and training Opportunities for those with "different abilities" (once referred to erroneously as disabilities!). Goals has operated therapeutic recreation programs, art programs and gardening programs while integrating some Service Opportunities for staff, americorps volunteers and program interns. Some 150 participants are typically involved annually. Fortunately Goals was able to continue a modest art and reading component on a virtual (zoom) basis throughout the year. Approximately 75 individuals benefitted from our efforts.goals cadets & the summer of Service. Typically, Goals operates a major regional Service program throughout the summer months which includes Goals participants from junior high school age up Through high school and college ages. The program features the inclusion of "summer associates" supported by the americorps vista national Service program.typically, Goals operates and supports various physical improvementprojects along with social Service to help other needy populations.during the summer of '21 we conducted a few major physical Service projects and restricted participation to some core Goals staff and interns for 10 summer weeks. The focus was to help with a major mountain camp restoration effort called "Goals for valcrest" along with some on-going major projects to assist at the oak canyon nature centers in anaheim hills/city of anaheim.goals for valcrest: one of these major new Service initiatives is worth continually highlighting further - as it is the leading edge so to speak of an expansion endeavor called "Goals for valcrest". Goals is partnering with the usda/forest Service and the city of los angeles recreation and parks agency to restore and then eventually reopen a long dormant mountain camp in the angeles national forest. Camp valcrest was originally developed during a 10 year period from the late 1940's Through the 1950's as one of many organization" camps sanctioned by the federal government. The idea was to provide a forest experience for urban youth who might otherwise never have the opportunity to appreciate such an opportunity. Goals has pledged to assume the responsibility for returning this historic site to functioning and to provide all camp spots at no charge to low income children. The hope is to complete all camp restoration needed for a phased in opening by 2023.goals Athletics, facilities, bus services and ice hockey: Goals continues to operate many facilities across several city blocks in anaheim, the abc site in west anaheim, and of course the major ice hockey program activities daily at anaheim ice which is about 1 mile south of the central Goals complex of our headquarters, outdoor gardens, rinks, tennis, soccer and basketball facilities. Goals also has maintained a bus fleet of 3 buses and is sanctioned as a bus 'terminal" with annual oversight by the ca highway patrol. As with all other program aspects, full use was curtailed due to the covid-19 pandemic largely from october of 2020 Through 2021. Some limited use was been phased in slowly per state and cdc guidelines as they have been instituted and periodically modified.goals did create a new/expanded summer sports camp program in collaboration with the placentia yorba linda school district for a 5 week intensive period during the summer of 2022. This featured 5 day per week/8 hour days of sports themed recreation and sports games which involved 5 elementary school sites and some 400 children. All services were provided to the children at no costs. Pylusd did support this program with a grant of approximately $95,000.goals had fielded an ambitious school based athletic program at 8 elementary school sites in the ocean view school district ovsd (huntington beach) during the 2021-22 school year. However, the program ended in june of '22 and ovsd did not extend funding support for the upcoming school and program year. Thus, the program came to a close in the last quarter of this program year.
