Program areas at Groundwork Northeast Revitalization
Housing land & equity program. Groundwork nrg has partnered with other neighborhood associations to help homeowners remain in their homes when facing tax foreclosure. The direct, door to door canvassing brings some of the most precariously housed residents into this work. It also supports them in making their housing better and more stable by connecting them to khrc funds, social service agencies and a nonprofit developer to make tangible improvement to their homes. In total, 12 homes were saved from the tax sale 2023.
Green team youth engagement and leadership program. Green team engages youth in long-term environmental stewardship job training experiences through civic engagement, collaborative partnerships, and leadership opportunities within Northeast Kansas city, Kansas. The green team, which is made up of local teens, will collaborate with federal, state and local partners to not only identify, design, implement and maintain green infrastructure practices in and on vacant lots within local neighborhoods, but also offer educational workshops for local residents in historic Northeast Kansas city, Kansas neighborhoods that promote environmentally sustainable practices that can be implemented in private front yards, back yards and home gardens. Green team will take these introductory workshops one step further by offering home lawn and garden maintenance assistance to these local residents.
