Program areas at Griffis Art Center

International artist-in-residence program: established in 1989 artists from around the world are chosen in a competitive selection process. Up to two artists are selected twice a year total of 4 to participate for a period of 3 months each. The Griffis Art Center provides a fully furnished apartment including all utilities amenities internet and a spacious separate artist's studio. During their residency artists may be offered an open studio publications filming for educational purposes receptions lectures and introductions to members of the community. All community exhibitions and lectures are free and open to the public. Invited painters poets and writers are welcomed to their host country to be immersed in the Art ideas culture and spirit of their new communities. Because of covid-19 there were no artists-in-residence in 2022 but the facilities were upgraded and maintained.
Two collaborations: 1 with the tributary mill conservancy for the program whispering falls - where Art & science meet. 2 arts new london - a virtual archive project for the city of new london.
Gemfire studio sky break: these turn-of-the-century properties have been renovated to offer rental apartments for artists writers and composers. The rental rates are kept below market rates to assist artists creating an artistic community within new london and to support the residency programs.
