Program areas at Green Spaces Alliance of South Texas
Land Conservation and Stewardship Program: Green Spaces preserves open or undeveloped land and water resources through the City of San Antonio's Edwards Aquifer Protection Program (EAAP), the Joint Base SanAntonio - Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration (REPI) program, and programming and land management practices at owned properties. To date, Green Spaces has facilitated the protection of 63,347 acres under EAPP and secured 16 parcels totaling 75 acres around Randolph Air Force Base. In addition, the Land Conservation and Stewardship Program safeguards 1,558 acres of private property through individual conservation easements, REPI conservation easements, and stewardship of 68 acres of donated land through fee simple properties in Bexar and Kendall County.
Picture Your World Youth Photography Program: A digital photography and natural science education program for youth ages 8-18. The program fosters an appreciation for the natural world through the camera lens with weekend workshops, a Title One elementary program, and an annual exhibition. The program encourages a creative approach to digital photography while advocating a personal connection to nature that promotes environmental stewardship. Picture Your World provides programming service to over 500 youth annually.
Urban Land and Water Program: Green Spaces maintains and supports a network of over 25 community gardens across San Antonio. Urban Land and Water staff assist the city-wide network by providing funding, technical support, and educational opportunities to local volunteers in the operation of their vegetable, pollinator and herb gardens. Community gardens bolster food security, expand access to nature, and promote locally led urban revitalization efforts focused on economic, social, and environmental benefits.
