Program areas at Greater Mankato Diversity Council

Promoting respect workshopspromoting respect workshop (prw) is gmdc's flagship program which started in march 2005 with sessions in each classroom in grades 7-9 in the Mankato area schools. We now serve k-12 classrooms in Mankato and various outlying communities.these researched and evaluated workshops reflect our regional character and uniqueness and helps students understand, appreciate, and embrace each other's uniqueness. The central theme in our promoting respect workshops is "respect for all regardless of differences".
Other program servicesgmdc facilitates and partners with other community organizations with events in various communities to promote Diversity and inclusion. Organized events include multi-year "write on race" to bring community members together to discuss Diversity issues, annual mlk celebration, and "juneteenth" celebration to commemorate the end of slavery.
Diversity traininggmdc provides Diversity awareness and prejudice reduction training for staff of area organizations through its own developed curriculum. The curriculum is a multi-faceted, interchangeable Diversity training module that effectively addresses each individual business' Diversity needs. Mutual respect and civility is an integral part of the workplace. Diversity training provided by gmdc is customized to the needs of the organization. Information is gathered for any area of concern or where the organization is being diligent to prevent discrimination and harassment. The organization's staff is interviewed to create a plan for the training to include tested curriculum elements.
