Program areas at GLFHC
Patient services - the Health Center makes a difference by offering preventative care, Health education, integrated clinical and social services, and affordable quality medical care. Our programs are designed to address the needs in our community and eliminate existing Health disparities. Traditional medical services are provided at our seven clinical sites, at two school based Health centers, and fourteen healthcare for the homeless sites. The Health Center serves over 58,000 patients, with 230,935 annual medical visits. For more than two decades, not one hiv+ baby has been born in Lawrence and both the std and aids rate is dropping faster in Lawrence than statewide.
Pharmacy - the Family pharmacy offers discounted medications to qualifying patients and is open to the public. The Health Center has six pharmacies and filled 519,250 prescriptions during fiscal year 2023.
Lawrence Family medicine residency: the nation's first accredited community Health center-sponsored Family medicine residency program. Affiliated with tufts and umass, we currently train over 30 medical residents annually. The Health Center has 200 alumni who are working in underserved communities all over the country and the world.
Community support services (css)- the programs within this department offer assistance in addressing the social determinants of Health by helping our patients with unmet social needs such as Health insurance and other state benefits, transportation, utility assistance, referrals to community resources, food security, housing, etc. Within css, our hiv prevention program provides outreach to high risk populations, hiv, hepatitis c, & sexually transmitted infection screening and linkages to treatment and services. Additionally, the program provides overdose education and narcan distribution, distribution of risk reduction materials as well as syringe services as public Health prevention strategies. Our hiv program offers medical case management and care management, peer support and transportation services for hiv+ individuals in the area. Additionally, our program has a strong continuous quality improvement component that in addition to the care management helps improve the lives and Health outcomes of individuals living with hiv/aids.
Health and education training (ahec) - training programs for Health professionals, paraprofessionals, and students pursuing Health care careers.
