Program areas at Great Shape
In 2023, the 1000 smiles dental project realized a full rebound of program activity. Our teams of volunteer dentists and support staff served 24,500 people across the islands of st lucia, grenada, jamaica and turks & caicos with 100% free dental care and education at an overall program value of 7.75 million dollars. Our sealant project returned to jamaica and expanded to the island of grenada. Our volunteers provided fillings, root canals, sealants, dentures, extractions, cleanings, fluoride, blood pressure checks, x-rays and oral health education. As always, the need for primary dental care is very high in the communities we serve.
In 2023, our teach the teaches and superkids literacy projects in jamiaca featured some 70 volunteers providing critical teacher training and student-focused individual learning. The impact was massive.
In 2022, the icare project worked in the bahamas and jamaica. Some 100 volinteers delivered free glasses, exams, diabetes screening, glaucoma treatment, retinopathy therapy, prescription glasses and cataract surgery. The value of our icare programs in 2023 was over 2,000,000.
