Program areas at Great Old Broads for Wilderness

Great Old Broads for Wilderness advocacy and leadership activities in 2022 involved more than 109.5 million acres of public lands. Nearly 40,000 volunteer hours were recorded by Broadband chapters, who also reported close to 1,000 advocacy actions, including calls, letters, and submitting substantive comments on rulemaking and agency proposals. Stewardship activities, such as monitoring solitude, trail use, grazing impacts, and water quality totaled 5,400 hours.Engagement and education ramped up with several webinars that drew a record number of attendees. Bill McKibben partnered with our Noreaster Broadband to present on climate activism. Another popular topic was Navigating Tribal Co-Management of Public Lands, which drew 145 attendees. Regional education efforts resulted in more than 50 in-person or virtual educational events with more than 1,225 attendees on topics from endangered species to wildfires and forests, and proposed mines to climate change.
