Program areas at Great Lakes Theater

Great Lakes Theater (glt) produces plays of william shakespeare and other classical playwrights. During the 2021-2022 season, four plays were presented to the community, two fewer than in a normal fiscal year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Plays presented included "the tempest", "a christmas carol", "much ado about nothing", and "the 39 steps". A production of "ain't misbehavin'" was scheduled but cancelled due to covid. Receipt of a shuttered venue operators grant and prior years' paycheck protection program funds enabled glt to continue to expend resources to support the production department. A total of 22,532 attended the public performances. Student matinee series performances of mainstage productions served an additional 2,457 students at the hanna and mimi Ohio theaters, playhouse square.
Education programs: school residency programming (specially trained actor-teachers provide performances, discussion and analysis of curricula-supporting plays/literature) visited 64 schools and engaged 10,378 students in nine Ohio counties. The Theater's 33rd annual cleveland metropolitan school district "a christmas carol" writing contest engaged an additional 300 students from 11 schools. All 2021-2022 educational programming was delivered amidst pandemic-disruption challenges.
