Goodwill of the Southern Alleghenies operates a donated goods retail system consisting of 11 stores and a 93,000 square foot distribution center serving a six and a half county region. Our retail system plays three critical mission roles which include providing work and training opportunities for staff and clients, promoting sustainable recycling, and generating additional financial resources to help our residents gain, retain, and advance in employment and stay integrated in their communities. Supported by our well-trained staff and clients, our retail donated goods program receives a 95% or higher rating by our donors. Seen as a critical community asset, Goodwill consistently ranks in the top five of enso's world value index. Fulfilling our founder dr. edgar j. helms' vision, "it focuses more on prevention than cure. That's what a job does." In 2022, our retail program provided work and training opportunities to over 326 individuals.
the focus of all Goodwill programs is employment and integration in the community. Serving as a lead partner for the regional one-stop employment centers and wioa title i provider in cambria, blair, and bedford counties, Goodwill is able to leverage agency assets to benefit all job seekers and employer customers in the region. We have been recognized for our work in integrating one-stop career centers into community libraries; considered a best practice by local, state, and federal stakeholders. Serving over 13,121 individuals in 2022, Goodwill also offers a wide range of programs supporting persons who are young adults, ex-offenders, or have disabilities. Services include assessment, career exploration, career counseling, adult literacy, work experience, mentoring, psychiatric rehabilitation, peer support, job development, placement, and follow-along. We are viewed as a regional leader in providing pre- and post-release employment services to individuals with a criminal background. Goodwill's moxham food pantry saw service needs increase over 400% in 2022 over the previous year. We look forward to continuing our role as a critical community asset.
