Beginning in 2015, Goodwill has hosted an annual fund raising event known as The Lunch. Goodwill has followed a practice of distributing the full proceeds from The Lunch each year to the Foundation with the understanding that the Foundation will bear all the costs of the annual event and will make periodic distributions of the net proceeds to Goodwill to provide support for the workforce development programs. The Foundation also makes an unrelated distribution to Goodwill from its net assets. Due to COVID-19, the 2020 The Lunch event was cancelled. Contributions designated for The Lunch, which were made by donors with the understanding that there would not be a 2020-hosted event, were transferred to the Foundation consistent with prior years. In order to further respond to the event cancellation, Goodwill promoted the opportunity for donors to designate gifts to the organization through the North Texas Giving Day, which is a community fundraising event sponsored by an unrelated third party and includes the ability to earn matching funds. At managements instructions, the donations designated for Goodwill which were received through the North Texas Giving Day and the related matching funds were transferred directly by the event sponsor to the Foundation. The Foundation will treat both the 2020 contributions toward The Lunch as well as those received from the North Texas Giving Day event in the manner described above by making future distributions of net proceeds to Goodwill to provide support for the workforce development programs.
