Program areas at Good Neighbor Free Medical Clinic of Beaufort
GNMC provides a medical home to low-income uninsured adults within our community. Services include physical exams, management of chronic illness, diagnosis and treatment of acute illness, and prescription assistance. The clinic also provides in-house specialty care including cardiology, gastroenterology, gynecology, otolaryngologists (ENT), physical therapy, podiatry, general surgery, diabetic and nutrition education. Other specialty care is provided through outside referrals, such as addiction medicine, dental, neurology, ophthalmology, orthopedic, pain management, pulmonology, urology, and mental health services. Medical services are provided by volunteers including over 45 clinicians (general practice physicians, specialty physicians, physician assistant, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and pharmacists). More than 45 non-clinical volunteers staff the front office, prescription assistance program and administrative support services. Combined clinical and non-clinical volunteers donated more than 8170 hours of service in 2022. During the year 2022, GNMC delivered $4.2 million in services and prescriptions to over 700 patients, resulting in 3438 total patient medical visits, 1130 lab & imaging services and 714 patient referrals to outside specialty care. GNMC is registered and certified with both the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics as well as the SC Association of Free and Charitable Clinics, GNMC achieved a gold star rating with the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics. Additional program accomplishments in 2022 included the board of directors recruiting three new board members and completing a strategic plan, which included establishing working committees in the followins areas: Quality and Safety, Personnel and Finance, and Outreach and Development. GNMC completed the transition from paper to electronic health records (EHR) to improve continuity of care and implemented a compliance monitoring system to ensure accruacy and completeness in the EHR. GNMC obtained a grant that allowed us to add a Community Health Worker to assist in social determinants of health and reduce obstacles to obtaining patient care and added collaborative partners to enhance patient care services in the areas of transportation, cataract surgery and sleep apnea studies.
