Education, training, outreach, and publishing:newsletters - gijn produced and distributed e-newsletters of the latest tools, events, and news in Investigative Journalism. The newsletters appeared in nine languages and reached an audience of nearly 27,000.workshops, training and mentorship - gijn ran online workshops on such topics as internet search skills and media business management. Resource center - gijn's free online resource centre holds more than 1,500 items in 14 languages - an impressive digital library of resources for public-interest investigators on materials related to Investigative and data Journalism, used by journalists in 140 countries each day.in 2022 gijn published five new reporting guides: guide to investigating organized crime in the golden triangle; investigating sea level rise; undercover reporting; elections; investigating methane. Furthermore, gijn has updated the following guides: resources for female Investigative journalists; war crimes; refugee issues; what is Washington doing in your country?, and built a dedicated resource center page on russia and the war on ukraine. Overall, gijn made more than 60 new entries in our older guides and tip sheets in 2022.help desk- since 2012, the gijn help desk has responded to nearly 15,000 requests for assistance from around the world. With access to hundreds of experts on Investigative techniques, data Journalism, nonprofits, funding, safety and security, and more, the help desk responds to a wide range of requests.capacity building - through gijn advisory services, gijn offers a range of resources, training, and assessments for watchdog media to build capacity. The gijn teams can evaluate an organization's editorial operations, business practices, fundraising, security and legal exposure, and provide recommendations to strengthen sustainability. Gijn advisory services continued to run three successful pilot projects in asia in 2022.video training - gijn produces video training series on Investigative Journalism featuring specialists in public records, data Journalism, online search strategy, factchecking, and more topics. In 2022, gijn hosted 37 webinars and online workshops, attracting more than 21,700 attendees. All of gijn's training sessions are free and open to journalists, reporters and citizen investigators worldwide. To make our training more accessible to our peers around the world, in 2022 gijn hosted webinars and online workshops in 10 languages: arabic, bahasa indonesia, english, french, hindi, portuguese, spanish, russian, turkish, and urdu.online publishing and networking - gijn runs publishing and social media feeds on 20 platforms in 13 languages, featuring trends, events, news, and techniques on Investigative and data Journalism worldwide.during 2022, gijn websites published 1,079 articles in 15 languages. On an average day, viewers from 140 countries visited gijn's main site. Gijn's daily social media feeds, published in regional editions, run hundreds of items per month. Gijn's audience and reach today are truly Global, with more than 410,000 people in 150 countries following its work. Today, gijn's Global team includes 20 regional editors and assistant regional editors who work in 14 languages on 13 microsites daily - arabic, bahasa indonesia, bangla, chinese, french, english, german, hindi, portuguese, russian, spanish, turkish, ukrainian, and urdu.outreach - in 2022, gijn staff spoke at 106 events in 28 countries, including rightscon, ire, colpin, and the african Investigative Journalism conference, as well as events sponsored by the Global initiative against transnational organized crime, humanity united, and transparency international. Translations - in addition to english, every day gijn distributes materials in a dozen languages: arabic, bangla, bahasa indonesia, chinese, french, german, hindi, portuguese, russian, turkish, spanish, and urdu. Gijn's hard-working regional editors shared links to these materials via social media platforms, e-newsletters, and websites, reaching over 140 countries per day.gijn also conducted translation projects in partnership with member organizations in languages that include albanian, bosnian, japanese, korean, sinhalese, swedish, tamil, and thai. And, for the first time, gijn produced targeted translations in several indigenous languages: guarani, quechua, and yucatec mayan. In 2022 alone, gijn published 651 translations in 24 languages.membership services - gijn provides services to its member organizations, such as discounted or free software; preferred access to gijn's help desk, resource center, and conferences; and pro bono consulting on fundraising and business practices. Since 2012, gijn's membership has grown nearly five-fold: from 49 groups in 32 countries to 244 members in 90 countries.
Annual conference: Global Investigative Journalism conference - due to the Global spread of covid-19, gijn decided to move its Global Investigative Journalism conference (gijc21) online to protect its staff, speakers and attendees against the enduring threat of the pandemic. Gijn's first all-virtual gijc21 brought together 1,668 attendees from a record 144 countries. Attendees joined 77 sessions over five days on a variety of topics, as well as targeted networking sessions. The conference attracted an extraordinary 109 million twitter impressions, reaching an estimate of 32 million people worldwide. Gijn did not hold the annual conference in 2022.
