Education, training, outreach, and publishing:webinars - gijn produced 11 webinars in six languages in 2023 with topics ranging from measuring and increasing the effects of Investigative Journalism to investigating the war in ukraine and investigating war crimes. On average, the webinars saw 91 participants.newsletters - gijn produced and distributed e-newsletters of the latest tools, events, and news in Investigative Journalism. The newsletters appeared in seven languages and reached an audience of over 40,000 people.workshops, training, and mentorship - gijn ran online workshops on topics such as security, impact, and war crimes.resource center - gijn's free online resource centre holds more than 2,000 items in 14 languages - an impressive digital library of resources for public-interest investigators on materials related to Investigative and data Journalism, used by journalists in 140 countries each day.in 2023, gijn published six new reporting guides (war crimes, digital threats, disability, organized crime in africa, holding your government accountable for climate pledges, online research by hend van ess) and four updated guides (satellites, plane spotting, asset disclosure, researching corporations and their owners).another 180 tipsheets and presentations were added in 2023 due to the conference. The topics covered were vast from climate change to cybersecurity and ai.help desk - since 2012, the gijn help desk has responded to over 17,400 requests for assistance from around the world. With access to hundreds of experts on Investigative techniques, data Journalism, nonprofits, funding, safety and security, and more, the help desk responds to a wide range of requests.capacity building - through gijn advisory services, gijn offers a range of resources, training, and assessments for watchdog media to build capacity. The gijn teams can evaluate an organization's editorial operations, business practices, fundraising, security and legal exposure, and provide recommendations to strengthen sustainability. Video training - gijn produces video training series on Investigative Journalism featuring specialists in public records, data Journalism, online search strategy, fact-checking, and more topics. In 2023, gijn hosted 11 webinars, attracting more than 1,000 attendees with the largest audience of 301 participants from 74 countries attending the november webinar, investigating war crimes. All of gijn's training sessions are free and open to journalists, reporters and citizen investigators worldwide. To make our training more accessible to our peers around the world, in 2023 gijn hosted webinars and online workshops in 6 languages.online publishing and networking - gijn runs publishing and social media feeds on 47 platforms in 14 languages, featuring trends, events, news, and techniques on Investigative and data Journalism worldwide.during 2023, gijn websites published 218 original stories. Gijn's daily social media feeds, published in regional editions, run hundreds of items per month. Gijn's audience and reach today are truly Global, with more than 2.2 million people in 190 countries following its work. Today, gijn's Global team includes 18 regional editors and assistant regional editors who work in 14 languages on 14 microsites daily.outreach - in 2023, gijn staff spoke at more than 90 different talks and trainings at external events in different languages.translations - in addition to english, every day gijn distributes materials in a dozen languages: arabic, bangla, bahas indonesia, chinese, french, german, hindi, portuguese, russian, turkish, spanish, and urdu. Gijn's hard-working regional editors shared links to these materials via social media platforms, e-newsletters, and websites, reaching over 190 countries per day.gijn also conducted translation projects in partnership with member organizations in languages that include armenian, azeri, belarusian, Georgian, and romanian. In 2023 alone, gijn published 472 translations in 20 languages.membership services - gijn provides services to its member organizations, such as discounted or free software; preferred access to gijn's help desk, resource center, and conferences; and pro bono consulting on fundraising and business practices. Since 2012, gijn's membership has grown five-fold: from 49 groups in 32 countries to 250 members in 91 countries.
Annual conference and workshops:global Investigative Journalism conference - every two years, gijn holds the Global Investigative Journalism conference, widely acknowledged as the leading international event for the world's Investigative reporters. Its last conference, held in september 2023 in gothenburg, sweden, attracted over 2,100 journalists from 130 countries. Attendees joined 200 sessions over 4 days on a variety of topics, as well as targeted networking sessions. In years when the Global conference is not held, gijn has co-hosted the asian Investigative Journalism conference. Gijn also assists member organizations with their own regional conferences, and hosts workshops, seminars, and webinars around the world.
