Program areas at GLACIAL HILLS RESOURCE CONSERVATION AND DEVelOPMENT
The organization sponsors two large watershed restoration and protection programs above the federal water supply reservoirs of perry lake and tuttle creek lake. The program services include providing financial cost share assistance to private landowners to address surface water impairments that impact the water quality of the watersheds and the reservoirs used for public drinking water. Pollutants reduced included nutrients, sediments, bacteria and livestock waste that affect drinking water supplies. A total of $349,031 was provided to landowners to install Conservation practices to reduce pollutants from reaching the reservoirs, the Kansas river, the Missouri river and the Mississippi river. The farmer to farmer network is a program that uses farmer coaches to work with other farmers to adopt soil health practices like no-till and cover crops to reduce water quality pollutants.
Regional economic development and small business development programs provide business development planning, financial assistance and technical assistance to entrepreneurs wanting to start a small business or business owners wanting to expand their growing businesses. The Glacial Hills food center is a shared use food processing facility that provides space, equipment, and planning assistance to food entrepreneurs starting food businesses. The Glacial hill business Resource center provided support, assistance and business planning to entrepreneurs and business owners with one on one business coaching, and office space to 16 businesses. The shawnee county e-community is a program that cooperates with network Kansas to provide six loans and workshops.
