Program areas at Girl Rising

Future Rising is a storytelling, education and advocacy initiative to galvanize a movement in support of girls education as a climate solution. The initiative has three main components: 1. Future Rising fellowship - young leaders working at the intersection of gender and climate justice, are supported in a year-long fellowship in which they receive financial support, professional development, and storytelling/media training. Girl Rising provides opportunities to advance their work and speak on global stages. 2. Future Rising stories - production and distribution of stories about grassroots, girl-led climate solutions including narrative work created by the future Rising fellows. 3. Future Rising investments - financial and technical support to grassroots organizations, founded and led by future Rising fellows, to help scale their work. By year end in 2022, Girl Rising had provided support for a total of 22 fellows from 17 countries, creating 20 pieces of narrative work, and participating in 41 high level global events.
The Girl Rising global education fund (gr-gef) is a six-year venture philanthropy fund, (2019-2024) through which we seek out, invest in and join forces with local leaders who have innovative, culturally relevant ideas on how to advance gender equity and quality education for girls and boys living in poverty. The grgef fund is active in india, kenya and guatemala. 7 organizations received unrestricted funding, mentorship and educational resources resulting in strengthening of organization capacity, new programming and opportunities to grow and create positive change in their communities. The collective reach of the fund in 2022 was: 7 partners, 5m+ adolescents and 267k+ educators across india, guatemala and kenya.
Activation and movement building: Girl Rising activates change by inspiring individuals, from parents to presidents, to support action for girls education through the creation and strategic distribution of films, media content and educational resources.
In india, our programs and campaigns are diverse and focus on building life skills among girls to improve education outcomes, addressing deep seated gender bias; and building a community of girls' education advocates. Our partners integrate custom Girl Rising media and curricular tools into programs designed to unearth local solutions to the girls education crisis. The overall program reach in india (multiple programs) was 5m+ adolescents and 267k+ educators through in-person activities as well as distribution of content through mass media, mobile app, multimedia phone messages, and other digital platforms. Girl risings works in eight countries with more than 40 local organizations to deliver educational programs to adolescents, educators, parents and caregivers. Girl Rising began a new pilot in partnership with credit suisse in ghana and mexico to deliver programming that builds financial literacy and life skills for thousands of adolescents. Additional programs in 2022 included the us educator program which has reached 20k+ adolescents, a guatemala program reaching 600+ adolescents, and a digital teacher training program in nigeria that reached 18k educators and reached 567k adolescents.
