Program areas at the Senior Citizens Council of Georgia
The Council is a sponsoring agency for The Senior corps network of programs. Locally they have established two programs: foster grandparents and Senior companions. The Council's foster grandparent program pairs volunteers with children who have special needs. These volunteers serve at least 20 hours per week in schools, shelters, and after school programs. Qualifying volunteers receive an hourly stipend and several benefits for their sevices. Senior companion program volunteers also receive The hourly stipend and special benefits. Those volunteers serve 20 hours a week by lending a hand to adults who are frail or disabled either in private homes or community sheltered workshops.
Throughout The year, The Council provides advocacy and education services to seniors in The csra. Through several program components, The advocacy programs department advocates for older adults and seeks out community resources needed by The frail older adults or disabled older clients in The csra.
