Program areas at Gainesville Opportunity Center
The Gainesville Opportunity Center (GOC) is a Clubhouse for persons with severe mental illness. The GOC aims to improve the quality of life for all of its Members by providing work, social, and educational opportunities. The GOC has 60 active members, with approximately 20 individuals finding employment through transitional or supported employment services. Five Members are furthering their education with the support of the GOC staff. Members who do not pursue jobs or educational opportunities volunteer at the Clubhouse in various roles. The GOC also offers holiday, evening, and weekend events to reduce isolation and strengthen relationships. In November 2021, the GOC received accreditation from the International Clubhouse Coalition for meeting the high standards of the Clubhouse Model, which is proven to improve the lives of persons with mental illness.
