Futurewise advocates for healthy, climate resilient, and equitable planning and land use policies at the state level. In 2023, Futurewise led education, advocacy, policy analysis, and coalition management resulting in the largest changes to the Washington State growth management act since its creation in 1990. This included new requirements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and vehicle miles traveled, to adapt to climate hazards, and to allow missing middle housing options in most residential neighborhoods.
Futurewise provides technical assistance to local partners to advance healthy, climate resilient, and equitable outcomes for communities. In 2023, Futurewise worked with a local advisory committee to complete the GreenLink Port Angeles Master Plan for Lower Valley Creek, a green stormwater infrastructure, recreation, and economic development project. In 2023, Futurewise also worked with local community partners to integrate anti-displacement concerns into Sound Transit Everett Link station siting decisions.
