Program areas at Friends of the Poor
Family to family: program started in 1986 to provide needy families in the community with food and dinner baskets during the thanksgiving holiday season. Annually, the program feeds approximately 20,000 people and throughout the program's history has provided over 300,000 people with thanksgiving dinners. In 2023, the program served 24,450 individuals across three seasonal food distributions (easter, thanksgiving, and christmas).
Children's programs: several educational and social programs for children hosted throughout the year.
Food pantries: 119,859 individuals served in 2023 across 14 full and part-time food pantries in lackawanna county.
General programs: clothes line for men, seasonal dinners, food giveaways, and events to provide assistance to the community.
