Friends of the Fisher House of Southern Louisiana

Given the centralized nature of va or dod facilities, families of veterans undergoing treatment at a va or dod hospital are often unable to find affordable lodging close to the facility. Because of distance from home, supportive family and Friends cannot be present during their loved ones treatment. the Fisher House program seeks to address this burden. Fisher houses are built by the Fisher House foundation of rockville, md and provide military families housing, free of charge, close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease, or injury. Currently there are 85 facilities located at major dod and va medical centers nationwide and in england and germany. New orleans is very fortunate to have a truly world (cont'd on sch o.) Class hospital directly serving the approximately 140,000 veterans living in the hospital's Southern Louisiana catchment basin. the Fisher House of Southern Louisiana, located on the campus of the va hospital, opened in november 2020 and will serve these veterans and their families by offering them 5840 room nights annually of free lodging while undergoing treatment at the va hospital.
