Program areas at Friends of the Animal Shelter of St Joseph
4(a): fotas had a successful year of fundraising and saw further improvement in our life-saving efforts for pets in the St. Joseph area and surrounding communities in 2022. With fotas help, live outcomes at St. Joseph Animal control & rescue for dogs was increased from 94 to 95% and for cats from 79 to 82% even though 2022 dog and cat intakes increased 13 and 14%, respectively. These improved outcomes were made possible by fotas sponsoring $44,681 worth of adoption fees to help increase adoptions, covering $26,414 worth of medical and fostering expenses for the animals at the Shelter or in foster homes, and coordinating rescue transport for 123 dogs and 93 cats (along with an investment of $1,316 worth of fund towards rescue assistance). We also continued to educate the public on the importance of adoption and provided numerous promotional opportunities for adoptable pets through in-person pet previews, social media, radio, newspaper, and tv interviews. We also provided a $5,000 grant to another nonprofit organization providing free spay/neuters for low-income individuals. In addition to fundraising to directly support Shelter pets, fotas also continued to fundraise for the building of a new Animal Shelter in St. Joseph, with multiple virtual and in-person fundraisers totaling $68,919. We also received several trust or estate distributions totaling $25,864. Generous support from the public and our passionate, hard-working volunteers helped us meet our mission in 2022 to provide immediate medical care for the animals, provide monetary assistance to reduce adoption costs when needed, provide transportation to animals needing medical care or rescue placement and to educate the public about Animal care and overpopulation.
