Program areas at Friends of Independence National
In 2022, the organization celebrated its 50th anniversary and during that year, accomplished the following programmatic activities: 1) fundraising: completed the fundraising of a 4.5 million campaign to pay for the design of the construction for the rehabilitation of the first bank of the united states. This accomplishment enabled the project to be eligible to receive 30.1 million in the federal fy 2023 great american outdoors act funding which will pay for construction of the building. The building is scheduled to be opened in 2026. 2) 50th anniversary program: with a goal to increase awareness of the organization, the programs reached over 300 people in a period of six months by hosting educational and social events. 3) family-friendly activities: working with the national park service, hosted the first ever family-friendly activities on july 8th in conjunction with the re-enactment of the first reading of the declaration of Independence. The day saw an average of 79 visitors (total 556) attend the program. 4) twilight tours: offered free, evening walking tours on the history of the national park. Over 440 attendants from 33 different states and 18 foreign countries attended the program. 5)through funds managed by the Trust, we were able to accomplish the following: 5a)support the creation and installation two temporary educational exhibits in the park. 5b)replaced exhibit panels at the president's house site. 5c)supported the park's educational field trips: in partnership with the national park service the organization provided funding to offer virtual field trips. In the 2021-2022 school year, the program reached 54 schools, 5,068 students and at least 140 teachers. Education staff presented a total of 112 programs during the school year.
