Program areas at Friends of Dangberg Home Ranch
Visitor, Interpretive, and Education Services and Programs. Friends of Dangberg provides all visitor services at the historic park. Usually, these services are provided Tuesday through Sunday throughout the year. In FY2022-23, 1,564 people visited the park to enjoy the grounds, historic buildings, and interpretive signage and museum displays, with guidance from staff and volunteer docents. In addition to facilitating community use of the park, the objective is to help visitors understand and enjoy the historical significance of the site and the people who lived there.
Historic Restoration, Preservation, and Maintenance. Much of the fundraising conducted by Friends of Dangberg is focused on the restoration and long-term maintenance of the park's historic grounds, structures, and museum collection, and that continued in FY2022-23. In addition to ongoing maintenance and improvement of the park's grounds, as well as professional management of the artifacts, the organization's main objective in this area during the tax year was to finish in-process work on the restoration of three historic structures at the park, ultimately completed in October 2022.
Cultural Programming. Each spring-summer, Friends of Dangberg organizes a series of public arts and culture events for presentation at the historic park. In tax year 2022-23, these events numbered almost two-dozen and included a weekend of kite-flying demonstrations and activities, music concerts, Chautauqua portrayals, and author/historian presentations, with 1,643 people attending. The objective is to provide audiences with a variety of cultural experiences that include performing arts and humanities presentations, as well as recreational activities.
